For those of us in places where the snow settles d For those of us in places where the snow settles deep, we often think of the landscape in January as a blank white canvas. But if you lean in closer, the colors are there. Taking a moment today to appreciate the small things: the details and colors that are 'hidden' in plain sight, waiting for us to notice them.

The excitement is real when a landscape architect stumbles upon a plant they love. Just one of those simple joys that makes the job even more fun.

We love materials that carry their own stories. Fo We love materials that carry their own stories. For this project, we fashioned the main beams from reclaimed railroad timbers, hand-hewn hemlock that gives the structure an immediate sense of permanence on this 1790 farm.
The design is just as intentional as the materials: the custom lattice gate pays homage to the property's apple orchard, serving as a visual transition that invites you out into the open landscape beyond.

"Ultimately, landscape creation may be about desig "Ultimately, landscape creation may be about design, but it is also about leadership: an element at the heart of each project. One must organize, gather resources, be resilient, influence, and persevere, enjoying the best elements of craftsmanship, plantsmanship, and detailing." –Janice Parker
It might look quiet on the landscape right now, bu It might look quiet on the landscape right now, but January is actually the launchpad for the rest of the year.
We use this time to order materials, finalize planting plans, and ensure the "bones" of the site are prepped. It's about doing the work now, so when it's warmer, we're ready to roll.

A collaboration with nature. We shaped this projec A collaboration with nature. We shaped this project with a specific goal: to connect the clients deeply with their land.
Using a series of tiered terraces, we blended the site's natural architecture with a clean aesthetic to create a "room" that feels grounded. By setting the fire bowl terrace as a sunken element, we created a space that serves a dual purpose: A design physically embraces its guests while directing all visual attention outward to the expansive water views.

The snow feels like a clean slate, offering a moment of grace as we settle back into our routines. I love how the landscape quietly participates in this new beginning.

This traditional landscape, once home to Mary Tyle This traditional landscape, once home to Mary Tyler Moore, carried its own story of damage and recovery, uncertainty and unexpected beauty. At its center stood an ancient elm. After a storm split it in two, we resisted the urge to intervene. The tree healed on its own, growing back stronger and more complete than expected. It taught me what resilience truly looks like, how living systems adapt, mend, and continue forward when given patience and respect.
Set among the softness of the garden, the steel and stone sculptures anchor the space, adding form and texture to the landscape. That same endurance became the heart of my experience working here.
