For the third week of Heritage Garden’s #Throwback For the third week of Heritage Garden’s #ThrowbackThursday, we are looking at the property’s central axis. While the original garden has a Georgian layout, the gardens lacked the definition and vibrancy an estate of this scale requires. To restore the garden’s soul, we introduced a palette of roses that dance within the structured boxwood knot garden.

We are pleased to share our latest feature in the We are pleased to share our latest feature in the March/April issue of NYC&G (New York Cottages & Gardens @cottagesgardens ). This project was a privilege in refining a historic 1851 Tudor-style manor for modern-day living.

While our landscapes are still waking up, we are eagerly awaiting for the spectacular show of our early flowering trees such as our crabapples. Throughout the next month, they will trade its bare branches for a bountiful blooms Spring is almost here!

Meticulous attention was paid to the historical de Meticulous attention was paid to the historical details that give the Heritage Gardens its soul. For this portion of the estate, we restored or recreated the existing balustrades in replica to match the original 1913 character. 
Restoring the original masonry and adding cast limestone urns filled with ferns, revitalized a key architectural anchor that had been lost to time.

Originally, we found this historic 1913 feature almost entirely lost to overgrowth, and the reflecting pool in disrepair. The restoration of this garden was created through careful editing and study of landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman's vision.
